Default Speedo out by at least 5%, what can I do about it???

    Hi all,

my speedo is out by at least 5%
When the satnav says constant 50 mph my speedo says 55mph.

The wheels I have fitted are 225/40/18's 8J
I had the same problem with my previous wheels 215/50/17's 7J

Does anyone know what setting have I got to choose from in the ECU via Tech 2?
And which one to change it to?

    Thanks

Setting 2 is for 17,18 and 19" rims.
Setting 3 is for 20" rims.

If your speedo says 55 when you are actually doing 50 then that's 10% out, not 5%. However, the law says speedos can over-read by up to 10%, but mustn't under-read at all. Hence many speedos do over-read from new so as to stay the correct side of legal.

    Exactly

If it bothers you you can get it adjusted with Tech 2 as you said. 225/40/18 is not one of the sizes listed as an option, from memory, as it's not a size listed by Vx - while 225/45/18 is. You'll have to use the option where you enter the tyre circumferance. You can either get that from an online tyre calculator, or wrap a bit of string around the tyre and then measure that.

Sorry mate i got that wrong.
    16" 17" is setting 1
    18" 19" is setting 2
    20" is setting 3.

When i had mine done at MPG. He told me he changed mine from 1 to 2.
from 17" wheels to 19" wheels.
So i presume your's is set to 1 and needs to be at 2.

    How strange is that?

Just for info, because I checked it when I changed my wheels, 215/5017 are only a fraction of a mm different to 235/35/19.

    215/50/17 Circumference 2031.98 mm
    225/45/17 Circumference 1992.71 mm
    225/45/18 Circumference 2072.5 mm
    235/35/19 Circumference 2032.92 mm

The 205/55/16 and 215/55/16 are very different, so would need Tech2 to change calibration, but I can't see much difference from 17" up to 19"
