Question Snow chains on 17" wheels? (Help please!)

    Hi everyone,

My owner's manual states that 17" wheels cannot be fitted with snow chains. Apart from fitting smaller wheels, does anyone know any solutions to this problem? (I'm going skiing and snow chains are mandatory in alpine areas here)

    Thanks!

Not very common here... a bit of overkill for a one-off trip.

That is bizarre. I've just looked at the August 2003 PDF manual and attached the two relevant pages. I'm assuming that's what yours is saying as well?

So it's implying that it's okay to use them on 225/45/17 tyres but not on 215/50/17!

    Here's what my book says:

Hmmm... I have 225/45R17 tyres fitted whereas the factory tyres were 215/50R17. I'm guessing that sports suspension doesn't help with tyre clearances either...

Are different 17" tyres fitted according to the suspension type on UK-spec vehicles?

Thanks moorlander, I'll have to find out whether these are available in Australia and, if so, whether they're legally recognised as an alternative to snow chains.
