    Default Legal Or Illegal??

hi folks, i bought pre cut window tints for my veccy c.the rear window and back windows were tinted as limo black,i know they are legal, but the driver side and passenger side were tinted as ultra light smoke.my mrs is so paranoid everytime she see coppers on the road.(of course worried about giving them money to fund their organization)the front window left clear as it is.are we driving a legal tinted car?

    In a word, no.

The car leaves the factory with the maximum legal tints on the front window anyway (70% transmission) so anything you add will reduce that and make it technically illegal.

Will you get pulled? Doubt it TBH. If there's a noticeable difference between the rears and the fronts it will be much less obvious, and as long as the BiB can see into the car, you're unlikely to get stopped.

Loads of people have extra tint applied to the front and have no problems, but it's your decision at the end of the day.

If its light smoke and the windows were not factory tinted as well it should be fine. If you get stopped and they are not legal I think they would let you remove them rather than fine you.

but remember, if you have a crash etc, the insurance company can say you were uninsured if the car is not legal, ie tints darker than that allowed by law, and refuse to pay out. They would have a pretty good case too in a court of law.

I would nip to your local traffic cop and ask them to measure them, they have a light meter that will tell you if they are too dark.

At least that way you will know for definate.

Providing the modification is declared, I would doubt an insurance would refuse to pay out, but they could restrict the payout
Even if the tints are illegal, all the police can do is ask you to remove them right there and then, issue a VDRF, or consider the vehicle as non-roadworthy and issue a prohibition

A chap who services the machines at work, got pulled coming over the pennines, checked and fined on the spot, then was given 7 days to have
the tints removed, and to go have the vehicle inspected (can't remember who by, but he was instructed by the BiB), and supply the report to the Police. And he'd only just bought the car from a Saab main dealer, he was well pi**ed o**, so I would be careful, especially around Sheffield .
