    Default Steering Play

Has anybody else experienced issues with steering play on the facelift Vectra C/ Signum. The steer wheel when centred can be moved very slightly from side to side without effecting the road wheels. It only very slight but was not there originally. (Signum 07 ~18k miles)

I've also noticed this on the Vectra C hire cars I get from work. The low mileage ones under ~8k miles have fairly tight steering with minimal slack. The ones with around 14k plus usual have a bit of slack like my Signum currently has (had one or two hire car vectras with lots of slack)

Has anybody experienced this or had it sorted by the dealers under warrenty etc?

I guess you can remove the air bag of the steering wheel an tighten the nut.

sometimes mine plays silly bugggers mid turn it feels like the wheels are not pointing the same way one is trying to drag the car one way while the other does the opposite , also it weighs up badly in the corners and the back end bounces like a pig on a bouncy castle...

It won't be a loose steering wheel - the steering column is splined. It'll be worn bushes or something similar.

Track rod ends if you move the steering wheel and the wheels dont move quickly enough

I was thinking along similar lines but always good to get an ideas if other have had similar experience.

Have booked into dealers for a look see later in the week. Fingers crossed, no more slack when it comes back.

I had one replaced on mine at 60k, passenger side. Been told this is common for the passenger side one to go for some reason.

Got it back last night and dealer has done a good job of fixing it.

Turned out to be the Nut securing the steering wheel to the shaft had slipped just a little. [New nut and slightly more lock tight this time round]. Think they also checked and tighted the bolts of the knuckle joints.

Presumably you have had it tracked? I had a similar issues with mine, tracking was out and the back was jumping about! over!
