Default Are there any labour charges whilst car under warranty??

This might seem like a really stupid question but here goes......I've got the car booked in at dealers on friday for a couple of things. Namely a vibration/knocking on revving engine and a ?humming noise from rear at 70mph. If they don't find anything could they charge me for the labour whilst they have been investigating?? Do they claim the charges for labour back through VX?? Wanted to double check before car went in.

If they cannot find it then take them out for a test run. Chances of them finding things by themselves is remote lol.

There should be no charges involved unless they find a battery operated vibrating thingy in the boot.....

It's down to the individual dealer's discretion, but yes they could charge you if they have spent a lot of time looking for a reported fault but not found it - usually they don't though (charge). What they are more likely to charge you for is if you report a problem that is found not to be covered under warranty and you then decide not to get the work done i.e. you paying for the work. They are very likely to charge an investigation fee for that.

I find it's best to ask first...
Will this be covered by warranty, if not what will I be liable for

Even if you do end up paying for it, keep the receipt as this can be reclaimed later if the fault remains and has to be investigated further
Some faults are symptoms of a more serious fault
An example is ceasing rear brake pads, worn rear brakes, etc
This is often caused by a ceased handbrake cable

Around us most dealers charge a diagnostic fee if they cant find a fault.

I have often thought they do stuff like fixing the really small fault and saying there was nothing - just so they can get the diagnostic fee anyway.

So glad I started this thread now!! I think when the car goes in I will insist on taking it out with a technician and identifying the problems before leaving the car
