Default 2.0T Exhaust - decision time

Right, one of my back boxes has shed a skin and don't know how much longer it is going to last. Got a price from main dealer this morning - £360 for ONE back box fitted! Even the parts guy was shocked.

Alternatively there is the Magnex s/s cat back system from Roadrunner at £388 + fitting (according to their website Magnex went bust this month apparently)

I've not rung round the fastfit places yet but are pattern rear boxes available with the correct oval tailpipe?

I know the Magnex system is the way to go but at this stage I am not keen on spending 400 notes just to replace a rusty back box if you know what I mean.

You can definitely buy universal fit chrome tailpipe trims from halfords, would one of those with a pattern fit box be any use?

You could try Scorpion, see if they do parts only, as per this thread:

Buy the Vx backbox using TC discount, get a highstreet fastfit place to fit it. best of both worlds.

Update - my regular independent tyre dealer can get me a box for £76+VAT - it's a "special order" item apparently. I'm taking it in for an inspection tomorrow. May get both boxes done at the same time.

Update, just got back from my exhaust place. The boxes at £76+VAT don't have the correct tailpipe - they have those short downturned pipes like that car from Arnold Clark on here a couple of weeks back. As soon as he saw the car he said the exhaust was Vauxhall only.

So it looks like I'm going to get a Magnex if I can. Question is, is it a good fit or does it require adjustment? Do the 4" round tailpipes fit the rear valance OK and sit flush or do they protrude?

Opinions please before I shell out.

    Thanks.

PS Is this classed as a modification for insurance purposes?

I've taken the plunge and bought one.

These Magnex exhausts are shifting like hot cakes apparently and once they're gone that's it.
