    Default Another quick computer question

On the back of GG's question I have a simple one. I'm running very low on space and I need to delete some bits and bobs. With constant updates from the likes of Java, can I delete the older updates or do I have to keep them?

AFAIK you need to keep them if you want to keep the latest version of Java ... download and run Treesize instead to see where the space is taken up

With the Java ones, why not just uninstall them all then just download and install the latest full version?

That doesn't sound quite right ... upload pics? Have you checked available space - my computer, right click on disk drive - properties?

I think you can probably do the same with all your .NET framework ones too.

    Used space 15.5 GB
    Free space 903 MB

I did a dick clean up to get the free space, but as soon as I plug the camera in it uses it all up. I cant de frag because there isnt enough space ether.

There are a few things you can safely delete without any impact on your system.

Delete the contents of any of these completely (not the folders themselves, just the contents).

    C:\temp
    C:\windows\software distribution\download
    C:\windows\temp
C:\documents and settings\*your username*\local settings\temp (in fact do this for any username directories you have in "documents and settings").
C:\documents and settings\*your username*\local settings\temporary internet files (again do this for all usernames).

If nothing else it might buy you a bit of space, but in this day and age a 18GB hard drive is nothing and any normal PC user will fill it in a very short time indeed, realistically, you need a much larger drive.

Cheers for that mate, its a Laptop and dont really use it for anything else than Web, pics and a bit of music, no large documents and dont play games on it. TBH is due for a change when funds allow.
