Plenty of tuneing for the 1.9 150 mate. BSR 888 caterman tuneing box to mention just a couple. You talking £70-£550+ Take a look here.

More BHP? Yes You should get up to around 185 from your 150 with any of the main tuners (888, Regal, BSR, etc).

Better fuel economy? Possibly... In theory, you have more torque so you need less revs and therefore use less fuel. In reality I don't know anyone who actually has had better economy from a remap or tuning box.

Cost? Expect to pay around £500 for a remap. If it costs much less than that, I would be worried about the quality of the map itself or the backup service.

Who's had it done? LOADS of people! The only person I know who ever had a problem was Nutron, but he's mad anyway Everyone else, without exception, has been over the moon.

Cons? It invalidates your warranty if you still have one. It places more strain on every single component of your drivetrain. It's almost guaranteed to result in points on your license

But... Like anything, if you look after the engine it will look after you. Have it serviced properly and to schedule (NOT by a Vauxhall dealer unless you're made of money) and you'll have no problems at all.

A possible downside for chipping the car could be clutch slippage- not sure how much torque the clucth in the CTDI 150 engine can take, But I chipped my old Golf MkIV from 150-190 BHP and the clucth simply could'nt handle it - a Sachs performance clucth soon sorted that out mind you.
I've got a Signum now with 150 BHP as standard and am thinking about what to do about chiping it etc too...will look into how much torque the clutch can handle first though methinks.
While i'm here, what are these Caterman boxes people are talking about???
    cheers Adam

The F40 gearbox is rated at 400lb/ft constant torque. Any standard remap will raise your car to about 300lb/ft, so well within the limits of the car.

Caterman box is just a nickname - it's just a tuning box made by a German company called T-Tuning. Discovered and trialled by Caterman, one of our moderators, hence the nickname. Only sold on ebay AFAIK, usually for around £60-£70. In terms of bhp for your money, it's unbeatable. Power gains up to 195bhp recorded at RR meets.

in real time, the clucth will take anything that any map can put into it ,,it's only when you go nut's you will get and clucth slip iv found the limit is around 350 lbft befor it start to slip that why mine is capped to 330

there are maps that claim the world but that means nothing if it drives like a pig,

if you can find a map around 185 bhp which is the normal and 280 lbft of torque you will be very happy how it drives

Yeah, in fairness I think the clutch in my old Golf could've only handled a max of 300 lbft and it was probably on its way out seeing as it had done 80K miles upwards.
Sounds good about the tuning box though - will look into it more

Shouldn't that be 400Nm (approx 300lbft)? I think that the F40 is run close to its limit by the 3.0cdti??

    Cheers,
