    Angry Police Rant

Now I'm not one of these idiots who think the police are a bunch of nazi ***** etc, as I understand we need them, and more importantly - THEY DO A VERY DANGEROUS IMPORTANT JOB

However, going about my business as a courier driver around Liverpool city centre on Wednesday morning, and I noticed a copper 'hiding'...YES HIDING under a bush with his radio blowing thru cars to pull over., whilst further down the hill, was an 'army' of police cars / vans / officers.

As I have said at the start of the thread, this is not the usual 'police are ******s' rant. As there is a massive problem with uninsured / untaxed / stolen cars / drivers etc... esp. in Liverpool. BUT WHY DO THEY STILL USE THIS 'CHEAP HIDING BEHIND THINGS' tactic, as this is the exact thing that p1$$e5 drivers off and ailienates them against the police.
I know there's a few traffic cops on the site, maybe they can explain why this tactic is used??? Is it a directive from the top or just a personal choice of whoever is leading the team?

I parked up about 20 yards from where the cop was hiding (for those who know the city, it was on Upper Parliment St. heading down the hill towards the Queens Dock, just opp. the junction of Hope St.) I took a picture of the copper, on my camera phone, at which point he radioed someone, next minute, he started walking back towards the rest of his group down the hill
Whithin two mins the whole group had gone. I'm not sure whether they were about to finish up at that particular moment, or whether it was the fact i'd parked up and took the photo's.

BELOW IS THE PICTURE OF THE OFFICER 'HIDING' ( sorry about the quality as it was on my trusty nokia)PS. that's a raindrop that's been caught by the camera next to his head
    11.31am

    11.32am
The officer now walking back to the group, he is just infront of the guy in orange.

    11.33am
The vans / cars & bikes have all now gone hust leaving a few officers

    11.35am
    All gone!!!!!

So as you can see, within minutes the group had totally gone, I just find it so frustrating that they use this childish ploy.

    Comments / thoughts guys, mike

Yep, Childish and when it's raining wet etc. Could cause more accidents than they are trying to prevent. Give some of them a car and a radio and they think they're Tony Stamp out The Bill

There is nothing actually wrong with this type of operation, there are operational guidelines for this
However, I do agree it is very close to entrapment

There is a witnessing officer and then a tasking team
Providing the tasking team is CLEARLY visible and have a refuge in which to isolate passing vehicles then the operation is permitted

Typically the witnessing officer will be looking for any and all types of offences
Operational time is normally limited to three hours

My thoughts, so what !!! ???
That is clearly a built up pedestrian area, bottom line is, if you arenít doin anything wrong you havenít got anything to worry about.
Iíd sooner see that type of human policing than another bl00dy speed scammera thatís for sure.
Seems a strange way to do things now a dayís though, mobile ANPR is the future, and itís here now. (and thatís how the type of operation you describe is usually carried out now a days)
Bring it on, letís gets all those unlicensed, untaxed, and uninsured idiots off the roads and crush the sheds they are driving.
