    Default More Umphh

Being an old yin, I hear guys talking about tuning boxes for oil burners and Iam aware that one can re-map the ECU. But is this legal, what would the power increase be like and one more, would it do any harm to the engine with the extra torque/speed etc.

Performance products are not illegal so long as they don't breach any emissions laws (I would guess). Although a tuning box would invalidate your warranty. Irmscher have produced a Tuning Box that doesn't affect your warranty, but you have to register it with them and Vx.

Power increase from a tuning box is usually around the 20% mark.

You always have to way up reliability with performance with any product mate.

    Hope this helps

I see mate. Remapping the ECU is not illegal, but again it may affect your Vx warranty. In my opinion Courtney are the best at re-mapping but are expensive. There's a few guys on here offering the service. One member that springs to mind is 'ChippedUK' (I thinks that's his username). Contact Vectra2.0T as he's organising a regional meet at his place.

Normally aspirated re-maps are not normally anywhere near as expensive as turbo re-maps.

I have also been looking at getting a remap along with my mate from work who has a 2.2 astra conv. He phoned chippeduk as there is a franchise in Chester and was quoted £250 for a remap and chip which would give an extra 20bhp to take it up to 165 approx
    Hope this helps
