Default Offside Headlamp bulb replacement : SRI bumper, 3.0 V6 CDTI, pre-facelift

I've replaced three nearside headlamp bulbs, always looked briefly at the offside and hoped I'd never have to replace one!

Sadly the Low Beam warning came up whilst parked last night, kind of knew and Yes, it's the offside headlamp bulb that needed changing
My first attempt was with a pair of long nose pliers, but there just wasn't enough clearance
As a result, I took the car out of service

On return I then read Facelift Front Light Bulb Replacement
    Sadly, that's for the facelift
So read Front bumper removal / fitting Irmscher Spoiler

In the daylight today I removed the two Torx screws, unclipped the bumper, removed the offside top bumper clip, but found there was still not enough clearance to access the 8mm bolt under the headlamp
I then had to undo the other two 8mm bolts under the bumper, this then allows the bumper to drop about 15mm and gives the required clearance to access the final headlamp fixing bolt

Before refittting I modified the headlamp bulb clip, so that it can be removed more easily should the bulb fail again
I then bolted it back into place and tested, and a vast improvement
Sadly if the full beam bulb fails, then there is no choice the offside of the front bumper has to come off again!

    Total time about 20 minutes

Its a right pain, managed to replace my sidelight without removing anything, apart from a bit of skin!
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Access to the sidelight is limited, but possible
    I had already tested that!
Access can be improved by undoing the MAF sensor housing and pulling it out of the way

Sadly the instructions in the handbook for replacing the headlight bulbs are a complete waste of time

Absolutely no need to remove the bumper to do it, not on a pre-face. Facelift is a different matter for certain bulbs.

There isn't enough room to get access to the headlight and definitely not enough room to get to the high beam light
I did look at removing the air box, but it also looks like one of the bolts is underneath, bad enough with the electrics box sitting on top of it!

Either way, there should be NO need to go to this degree of dismantling
You, and by that I mean any person, should be able to change any bulb (excluding the foglight bulbs) without the need for any tools

The bit underneath the airbox isn't a bolt, pretty sure its a rubber mounting. However I so agree its a very poor design!

I mangaged to change all the bulbs, headlight & sidelight, without dismantling anything, but what I expected to be a 5 minute job took well over an hour. Changing the bulbs themselves wasn't too bad but with my hand squashed in the tiny space I couldn't get enough leverage to twist the bulb holder into place. When I did the HID conversion I opted to take the airbox out.

Yep, it's a rubber mounting on the bottom, airbox simply pulls off from it.

Yep, it is possible to do it without removing anything/needing any tools - I've done it with mine. Fiddly for sure, but possible.

You think the Vectra is bad?, especially the facelift - you wanna see some other makes/models for changing bulbs. It's half the flippin' front end off!
