    Default BT Broadband

Having just signed up for BT broadband and the welcome pack arriving today, was wondering if any of you have this and can tell me if it

    1) Works straight away?
    2) How easy is it to set up?
    3) Does it come with everything needed for wireless?
    4) Missus thinks it won't go live till midnight, is that true?
    5) How has the coverage and speed been?

Any other comments will be appreciated....

    1) Works straight away? pretty much
    2) How easy is it to set up? just follow the guide on the setup CD they send
    3) Does it come with everything needed for wireless? not unless you've paid for the BT Home Hub which is wirelss
    4) Missus thinks it won't go live till midnight, is that true? don't know
    5) How has the coverage and speed been? RUBBISH!! But that's because i'm far away from the exchange. But still, getting 0.5Mb when i'm paying for up to 8Mb does pish me off somewhat!

BT are a real pain in ar5e to deal with, too many people not knowing what the hell is going on.

i wish there was more choice of supplier

i had mine activated 4 days before they said it was going to be switched on, its very easy to set up and although you may get the hub which is wireless, you will still need wireless cards/adaptors for your computers or xbox to get tehm connected wirelessly, i have had very little problems with mine, and it gives me about 6.5mb which i am happy with

Don't they send the wireless adaptor then?? They never mentioned that when ordering, why wouldn't they if you asked to go wireless......

they dont send any other wireless equipment other then the hub mate, i think they presume that most computers have wifi built into them now, but you can order the adaptors from their shop, not recommended as they are a bit pricey, lol
most laptops have wifi in them now and a pci card for a desktop is only 15 quid from pc world

    What is the laptop make/model?

A lot of recent ones have Wireless built in as mentioned above, otherwise you will need to get either a slot in wireless card or a USB wireless adapter (card is probably better). There may be an expansion slot under a cover on the base of the laptop as well.

When you do set up wireless, remember to set the security on it so you are not suddenly providing free wireless access to your neighborhood!

How old's your laptop? A recent one may have WiFi already built in.If it doesn't, then a PCMCIA wireless adapter card (or USB dongle) from PC World or any local computer shop will have you going.
