    Talking Air Filter box Mod

    Hey guys (and Gals),

Been wanting to have fun with my 2003 Vectra C and have been reluctant to, due to my lack of technical car stuff. But with the help of my Vectra-C.com family i have made my first 'small' mod. I took the top off the air intake, just under the air filter. I am going to buy a K '&' N filter as well but can't afford it at the moment. Already felt more pep in acceleration.
So step by step, i will endevour to upgrade my ride. If there are any other 'cheap or free' mods that could help me, i am all ears.

    Thanks to you all.

    "IT HAS BEGUN!!!"

if you gonna have a KnN filter make sure its in a inclosed box, or with a heat shield and cold air feed, as heat from the engine get sucked in instead of cold air and you lose performance

Don't think so. I've got a 2.0T with the same airbox as a 2.2, the K&N panel filter simply replaces the standard VX filter and away you go. Sorted. Lack of performance....you must be joking.

i think beefycol meant you will lose performance with an induction kit without a heatshield/cold air feed
i agree though that the replacement filter in the modded airbox is a lot better, seems to rev a lot better and seems more responsive too, even on my lowly 1.8

correct im on about induction, that why a said enclosed box, or heat shield and cold air feed. i agree that the standard air filter is very restrictive, and would benift from a decent panel filter. or a proper setup induction.

Yes, I did realise Beefycol meant an induction kit after I'd posted, and others on here have hinted at the need for air cooling. If mrhappy doesn't want to go down the induction road, then a replacement panel filter added to the airbox mod on their own will give pleasing results in a matter of minutes.

went to do this mod to mine today and was going to buy a k&n panel.
took top off the air box and was pleased to see that the former owner had already fitted the k&n and removed the plastic part.
can now put the money i was going to buy a k&n with towards painting my irmscher spoiler when it arrives.
