Question Car washing: Snow Foam and Wheel Cleaning

I've heard loads of people say good stuff about Snow foam and spotting this thread made me think it might be time to give it a go but I have a question and wonder if anyone can help:

    - Everyone talks about using a Snow Foam gun ... I have one of these that feeds detergent through the Vario-lance automatically when set to low flow from the on-board tank ... has anyone got the same or something similar and does snow foam work ok with this?

I've also been trying to get something to make cleaning my wheels much easier for a while without much success ... I found Car Plan Wonder Wheels a short while ago and after 3-4 hours work it did an excellent job at removing all of the baked on brake dust and other stuff but it's scarily strong ... one of the brushes we used has a metal trim and the residue left on the brush corroded this overnight I'm now using Simoniz wheel cleaner which was on offer at Tesco a while ago and the stuff is a gel that sticks to the weels but it doesn't seem to be that great (now I've bought four bottles of it! )

So I'd like two things ...

    1. Something to stop brake dust sticking so easily and make cleaning the wheels easier

    2. Something that works quickly and with ease at cleaning the wheels but isn't too harsh on them

    I've been considering these:

http://www.autobritedirect.co.uk/sho...oducts_id=1488 ... but not sure if this is a concentrated version or the same as it says 20:1

    and this as a wax:

    http://www.autobritedirect.co.uk/sho...oducts_id=1982

Does anyone know if these are any good or have any other suggestions?

    Cheers

    Dave

Poorboys wheel sealant...stop the dust sticking to them then you can just use shampoo. If you need something stronger Meg wheel brightener is good.

Have used poorboys wheels sealant on my alloys and they come up very clean just with a 10:1 mix of all purpose cleaner,no need for anything stronger,so highly recommend the stuff........

I use a Gilmour gun full of snow foam. I give the car a good soaking with it leave it to "soak in" then rinse it off, Then wash the car with a bucket (with grit guard) and a sheep skin mitt.
For the wheels. I wash the wheels first with a seperate bucket to the car body work. If they are really bad I use some Autobright wheelcleaner ( I have some Megs wheelbrightener too, that is very good but will take off all the wax on the wheels if there is any, and I am told Autobright will not remove the wax).
I use Poorboys wheel sealent too, It is easy to put on and wipe off and lasts several weeks.

Yep, I've got a similar Karcher and no, the snow foam doesn't work very well through the on-board detergent tank. It just doesn't have enough pressure or the correct mixing/frothing action to get thick snow foam. I use the Autobrite snow foam lance on my Karcher and the difference to the on-board dispenser is phenomenal. I got the heavy-duty brass one when they had an offer on earlier this year/last year.

Avoid that stuff like the plague Dave. As you say, it's seriously strong stuff. Stick to something like the Megs/Autobrite etc. products mentioned above. I use the AB one and it does a good job, then a wheel sealer applied means future cleaning is much easier.

Megs stuff is too strong for regular use. The Autobrite stuff is great, can be used diluted 20:1 so it lasts for years!

Is that price right though ... forty odd quid+ ? ... might stick to my super thick and foamy simoniz shampoo in the onboard tank

Sounds like this is good stuff then! Is there anywhere else that sells this other than E-bay or is that the best place to get it from?
