Default Notes from a European Tour

Just got back from a 10 day trip round Europe, here are some brief highlights: -

2300 miles in 10 day, Grenoble, Grindelwald, Munich, Prague, Berlin, Den Haag, then home. GSI did not miss a beat, new cambelt nicely run in!

Bought a ViaMichelin 960 satnav unit for the trip, worked really well although initially had trouble linking it to the ViaMichelin mapping website.

Did a few of the big passes in the Alps, both on my bike on La Marmotte cyclosportive event in France, and in the car afterwards, here is the Grand Saint Bernard in low cloud...

The following day, we went round this road, which was like driving up a helter skelter and included a tunnel and elevated road bridge in order to gain height in the smallest footprint possible...

Having been up and down a few passes, filled up with fuel one day and got a personnel best GSI range figure of 515 miles. A couple of days later filled up again and got 525 miles range, and maintained it for about 15 miles of motorway driving. Managed to easily get over 400 miles out of each tank on steady motorway driving.

'Did' all the tourist spots in Prague in 3 hours in the lunch stop on the drive from Munich to Berlin. Long day.

Whilst the Brits seem to only buy black or silver cars, I saw quite a few white Audis, BWWs and Mercs in Germany and it just seemed odd to see.

Watched Ford film a car advert in Berlin one night. It looked like a small Puma, possibly the new Fiesta?

Just thought I would share that with you all.

great to do a euro tour. i just done austria and switzerland in 7 days in a camper, great sights. started in Vienna, then Innsbruck, Bregenz, Basel. Also caught Germany vs Portugal. Clocked up 2400miles in 7 days. Oh, it was in a camper. got over 100mph out of it, but fuel consumption poor as a result. I will put some pics up soon

Nice trip - and that's some mileage (as in per tank) you got from the GSi!

I like to use the Etap chain, £20-30 per night but clean and tidy. I prefer to spend my money on petrol rather than a room that I spend most of my time asleep in.
