Default MG forum's not that bad....

You thought the MG forum was a freaky forum? You should read the Lancer owners register forum. Ive been thinking about a 2004 EvoVIII 260 when we sell the house (selling our veccy and adding some house equity) but had a few questions so registered there. Talk about hormones.... They juts fight amongst themesleves to the point where if it was vec-c, we would have GSi owners telling 2.2 owners their cars were sh!t, why bother etc etc. Quite shocked really. I asked for a quick guide to owning an Evo and only got one reply so its kinda put me off the whole idea, as I like to buy a car that has a good club attached to them. Plus the fact that Whatcar say they are harsh ride, noisy, 4500 service intervals etc

Andy, if you buy one you will be permanently paranoid about it getting nicked. It's the most comon car for owners being burgled/threatened/assaulted prior to the theft (at least in my experience)
It doesn't matter what you do to secure it, if they want it, they'll get. I went to job where a stolen car was driven through a front door at 2am so they could get the keys!

I've also heard that the ride is incredibly harsh and overall it's very noisy. Isn't the service interval very low on these as well?

Personally mate I'd avoid one like the plague. Buy yourself a little track toy instead or a project car. (Vx Chevette springs to mind)

The theft aspect was my major concern, especially up here in Newcastle. I was worried that i might not enjoy the car for fear of being car jacked all the time, and as my wife will probably use it more than me, and have our little son in, thats a major concern. The lancer register did little to convince me otherwise.

The ride and noise is something is wasnt aware of till i read whatcar and is quite off putting if im honest, but i did read a rumour about silly service intervals, which turns out to be true... every 6 months or 4500miles.

With my sensible head on, im going to leave it. I have had a quick look at what impreza's are available but ive quickly knocked that on the head.

Im probably gonna end up keeping the vec and block paving the driveway instead lol

LMAO. Good move. Especially as you convinced your better half to let you buy the CDTi as it would be better on fuel than your old 2.2 SRi

yep, that was a major point in my 'pro cdti' argument lol so she'd sh!te herself if she found out about the max 25mpg in the Evo lol

I ran an Evo 5 as a company car for 2 years when I worked for a firm that imported Jap vehicles. For the first few weeks I couldn't stop driving it, a serious buzz. However the novelty soon wears off using it everyday. You wouldn't manage 20mpg unless you drove it like your gran and the suspension bangs and crashes over every bump. The only thing to have of that type as a usable car would be a Skyline - used one for a short time and they are awesome, mega quick, fairly comfy and a super smooth 6 pot. I would have an Evo if I had the money to keep one for a weekend toy but as an all round car I wouldn't swap my Vec.
