    confused help - strange noise

as per thread title, i have a strange noise whilst driving. sounds a bit like when you have a stone in the tyre - definately related to my speed. pretty sure its coming from offside rear wheel. its a rythmic mettalic tapping; dissapears when i press the brake.
Ive had a quick look around the rear wheel/caliper but cannot see anything which may be causing it. brakes and handling are not affected.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    thanks

Could be a couple of things, Pads getting low or Binding slightly, The other could be a wheel bearing.

Really needs a proper visual investigation to be sure !!

thanks dean. i'll have to jack it up or get it on a ramp and see what i can see. i hate putting a car into the garage when you dont know whats wrong - just gives the garage an excuse to spend ages finding the problem! £££

i had this problem, it turned out to be the metal profile of the pads slapping against the caliper, had new pads fitted, noise now gone

Definatley sounds like wheel bearing on the way out..

suggest check others like stone in tyres,,,, or brake parts first. (easiest)

But most likley is the bearing

Stone in the tyre? Unless it's a really teeny stone, the vibration at 70-80mph would be bad enough to throw the balance weights off the wheel.
