Default GSi handbrake - removing lever cover?

My handbrake lever has developed a knock/click when its applied. It sounds like its coming from under the handbrake lever cover and is akin to something catching / rubbing. I'd like to investigate further but how do you remove the cover?

Haynes manual doesn't help - I thought this was a simple job.

I'm sure someone posted recently that the handbrake was only ever supplied as an entire unit, so not sure if you could ever take it apart successfully.

Yep, twas me. In terms of replacing anything, even the lever cover, the whole handbrake assembly is one part number.

If you simply want to remove the lever cover to investigate anything, pop the chrome button off the end carefully (it's got little spring lug things holding it on) and then the cover will just slide off the shaft.

Mine does exacly the same mate, when applied it sounds like it misses a notch or two with a clunking sound, i.ve had the handbrake mod done at the dealer, thinking that it may be better ,it is in fact slightly worse.

It's a big job apparantly to remove the whole assembly, with the exhaust centre pipe needing to be removed hence not took mine any further.

Mine does a big 'klank' noise when it applyed near the top.....there was a thread about this (I can not find it sorry) and if I recall right is the platic side surrounds of it.......if you pull it sofltly it will nor klunk and depends on the angle of it...if you pull it up and towards the center it will help to I think....simple issue you will have to learn to live with it IMO

    It is and you cant
In a nut shell to remove it complete you will need to drop the rear section of the exhaust to allow access to remove the exhaust heat shield, then remove the levers underside horseshoe locking pin, remove the rear section of the console, undo the levers 4 securing nuts, disconnect lever switch and lift away. Getting it back in is just as easy but getting the cable back on can be a ****
