    Default Squeaking from cold

I get a squeaking noise from the engine bay when I start the car from cold. It doesn't take long before it goes away.

    The cars a 1.9 CDTi (120).

Any ideas on what this could be?

The cars only got a month or so of warranty left would this be covered?

When you park up at home the mouse enters the engine bay and goes to sleep. The squeaking you hear when u first start up is the mouse because it little feet are getting to hot. The squeaking goes away becuase the mouse has jumped off. Or it could be the Cambelt.

I would suggest taking it along to the dealers the night before then going back in the morning and starting it up with one of the mechanics (use of this word in the widest possible way) next to it. Otherwise they will never find it!

You really are joking arnt you?

I have had to always point out things to my dealers. If u report the issue under warranty if it goes wrong outside of the warranty you are covered. Best getting it checked to be on the safe side. Thinking of it could also be water pump or the alternator drive belt. Does it do it from very cold or everytime you start it up?

Cambelt is not due for a change until 100k so it should be covered under warranty

It sounds like the Belt tensioner , thou i thought it was only common on the 150 engine, had the wifes Astra SRI done about 6 months ago, it was mainly from start up and went away, mind you after a few months it was there all the time.

get it checked out, specially if its just been serviced.

Yeh, sounds like auxiliary belt 'twittering'. Could be the belt, tensioner or pulley. If it is, best to get all 3 changed, I believe.

    Cheers for the responses.

I popped my head into the enigine bay this morning and it seemed to be coming from around the alternator.

It does seem to do it every time I start in the morning.

Might be worth getting a modified alternator pulley. Next on my list.
