    Default Those were the days...

Was digging around in the loft the other day and found an old pack of photos, thought they where worth posting for a laugh.

Ahh, the first true love of my life and my first Vauxhall as well as my first SRi and the first car I really did any "modding" on.

This old girl was a Cavalier Mk II 1.8 SRi, she was white when I bought her and in quite a bad way. I rebuilt the bodywork, resprayed the whole car black myself (will post some pics of the process later if I remember) added GSi alloy wheels (it came with steels standard), fully limo black tinted the whole car myself (all windows removed to do it properly except the back windscreen which I managed to do by taking the bootlid off), completely rebuilt the engine from the bottom up, added a full stainless exhaust system all the way through to a Pico Big Bore 2 back Box, had the custom graphics made up for the sides, changed the rear badges to MK III badges and colour coded the SRi badge and lots lots more.

This car was responsible for me doing City & Guilds Motor Vehicle Mechanics and Diesel Engineering Stage 1, 2 & 3 as well as the City & Guilds Motor Vehicle Electronics Diagnostics & Repair exams and is what really kick started my serious interest in mechanics, electrics and modding.

Don't laugh too hard please, this really was the serious love of my life back in 1994

Apologies for the poor quality pics, it had just been cleaned but not dressed or polished when these where taken and I don't have any others of this car other than during the rebuild and respray.

She was a beauty mate, I had a mkII 1.6 Commander saloon in silver and I loved it. Got me hooked on Vauxhalls without a doubt.

As Karl above, always hankered after a Calibre, see the very occasional one around these days and they still look good.

V Nice. A bit of Nostalgia. Lots of tales when I was a teenager of people doing over 140MPH in the Sri's. Never knew if it was urban myth or true?

Always fancied a VX. Wanted a Nova as a teen, then I fancied a Opel Manta GTE. Did my first journey as a passenger over 100mph in a B reg Opel Kadett 1.2.

Now got the Vec and not disappointed. I think i could be hooked, just not sure about the better half. Maybe I can influence her into another VX.

My old man got done on the M25 doing 135mph in his C reg SRi. Tell you what, one of the best cars VX ever made, in fact its the car that kept VX going. If im not wrong and this car failed we would not see VX now and would all be driving around in Opels.
C393 DWU, I wonder if its still running?
