Default Pre-facelift (GSi) xenon (self-levelling) dash warning

Looking for a bit of advice after this symbol appeared a few days ago. It came on occasionally a few months (but would stay off for ages) ago but is on know even if the lights are off.

Not been out in the dark over the last few days but tonight I checked in semi-darkness and it looks like the passenger side has stopped self-levelling (difficult to tell as I donít think they reset and self-level all the time every time you switch on the ignition, if they were switched on before).

Anyway, my question is Ė should I buy a second hand headlight or a new set of motors (I donít know if the motors can be bought/replaced separately).

The headlight is perfect and my concern is that I buy a unit which could have aged motors and I end up back a square one.

Not had a chance to do anything with it - mark one eyeball against the wall looks like passenger side is not responding.

Are the motors and integral part of the headlight?

Just had a look in the owner's manual and it says Headlight range adjustment check page 130 so here you go

    • Light fault in system, the system is not ready for operation. If the curve lighting swivelling device fails the relevant dipped beam is switched off. The corresponding fog light is automatically switched on for reasons of saferty.

    • If control indicator illuminates for approx 4 seconds after the ignition is switched on, the headlights have been set to symmetrical dipped beam.
    Hope this helps

    Steve

Also says you should take it to VX

Has anyone ever worked on/replaced the self levelling lights ?????, or do I need to go to vaux (the independant garage can read the codes, but not sure if it is a vaux only repair - and a 2nd hand unit is not an option).

I would imagine they are very similar to the standard lights, a motor in the lamp unit thats controlled from the level sensors rather than the manual control in mine. Are you sure your indi garage can read the codes for all the faults and not just engine codes?
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
