Default What to say at a service

Tips from a man who knows a man in the trade at vauxhall. When you take your veccy in for service say to the service manager that the front suspension seems to knock, sometimes the cruise control sticks on or off and the steering knocks. All these items will then have to be checked out ,and they are all known veccy faults, They will not automatically look at these and repair them under warranty unless you tell them there is a problem.
There is a known mod to the top front suspension mounts!
The spring in the peddle box sticks requiring a new peddle box to fix the cruise control problem ,( i think vauxhall have a new fix for this ).
lots of steering racks have had to be replaced at very low mileages, the newer racks are a bit more beefy at the knuckle joint.
It cost nothing to ask and get these items checked out at service ,vauxhall know these probs and quite a few veccys are running out of warranty. If alls o.k then great, if not ooooohhh dear,,,,,,

    Hi andyveccy,

Could you please give some more details on the front suspension modification? How can I tell if this modification has been done/needs to be done on my car?

    Thanks!

The modification is to the top suspension cups that hold the springs in place. If your car knocks at the front when going over bumps i'd guess its not been done. Take into vauxhall and tell them it knocks at the front (if it does or not) get them to check it , get them to repair it , you just sit back and chill.........

Thanks andyveccy, only trouble is I'm in Australia. Holden dealers here generally don't know too much about Vectras... Is there something I can see on the car that will tell me whether the modification's been done?

probably the most common vectra C fault there is, and well covered on here. All they do is fit plastic sleeves over the ends of the Srpings to hold them in place. What was happening was the springs moved in the seats and could twist out of position. Not dangerous, but caused the loud knock as it tried to twist back but couldnt. Knocking is also casued by radiator bushes, which they replace regularly too.

Steering racks, not so common on here although Bainie had a potentionally nasty expeireince if i remember right.

Cruise control, again, not so common but has been mentioned on here a few times.
