Question Slapping noise from front wheel/tyre!?

    Hey guys,

Im having a strange slapping noise coming from my O/S/F tyre or wheel when im driving. Its really irritating so jacked the car up spun the wheel and theres nothing stuck in the tyre and nothing rubbing against it so im lost anyone got any ideas?!?!?

Also when i hit above 80 the steering is a bit wobbly and when u brake it wobbles a bit more also when at high speed might these be connected?

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Campbell

run your hand around the tread mate as the plys of the tyre might be seperating, push down hard on the tread to see if there is any movement, had this on one of my goodyears

Funnily enough its a goodyear thats causing the racket, its a 53 plate GSI only done 30k and looks like original tyre still with plenty of tread left. How will i know if the ply is seperating by looking at it?

When i had it in the stealers they couldnt diagnose a problem with the steering wobble the only possible explanation it could be was that it might have a slight flat spot on one of my front tyres somewhere!?

What brand and tyre of tyre is it?
    How old is it?
    How many miles on it?
Does it have a puncture repair, if so how many and was it in the repairable area?
    When was it last balanced?

Has the alloy wheel been damaged or checked for alignment?

All good questions only had the car 2 weeks so cant answer them all im afraid

Think its the original goodyears and the car is a 2003 with the 30000 miles on the clock.

take the wheel in question off and roll along ground looking for slight bulges. push down on the trye from the top hard as you roll it round slowly. if it is the plys then you will hear a noise similar to touching 2 tacky surfaces together again and againg. like a ticking. if you have a Goodyear and its faulty then i'll get you the number for Peter Wayte at Goodyear. I had all four replaced( only done 6000 miles in the car) free of charge, bought new wheels and fitted Goodyear F1's and one of those faulty after 3 weeks. replaced free of charge. Customer service is excellent. good luck

With an 03 reg and 30K miles the front tyres are very unlikely to be the originals, more than lilkely they are what is left of the rears swapped to the front or a second or third pair of replacement fronts

    Try this...
Swap the offside rear and front, while you inspect them
Inspect the front whilst you do so, that way you can compare them
If the problem remains at the front, then it's not the tyre
If the problem does move to the rear or disappears, then it is the tyre

UPDATE: Had the car in at the stealers today for a different problem but as i had only recently bought the car brung up the issue of my tyre noise as it may be connected to my other problem of a slight steering wobble. The outcome was they deemed my car dangerous as the tyre was separating from the ply as is exactly what i was told it could be on here!!! They would'nt release it back to me in this condition and are putting a nice shiny new tyre on it 2moro morning, who knows this may solve my wobbly steering aswell
