    Default Traction Control (yet again)

Got my sunglasses holder, rear light and traction control switch today. Guess what? 54 plate car and TC switch doesn't work! Lights up nice though...

I've plodded through all the (many) threads on this subject and several people have mentioned using Tech 2 to attempt to activate the switch, but nobody has revealed how they got on. For those of us that have the switch and it didn't work, have you attempted Tech 2 yet, and (please) tell me it works!

OTOH, if anybody has tried the Tech 2 route and it still doesn't work, I'd appreciate knowing, save me a trip to Vx...

I might have a poke around the fuse box later too, there should be 2 fuses for TC, we'll see what I've got...

Hi there I have been trying for ages to get to the bottom of this "TC" switch, I have a 3.2 v6 you would have thought that the switch would have worked on my car.
I phoned a car tuning company in "the black country" they said that it could not be acctivated with the tech 2 as it is hard wired ???. I also got in touch with vx they referred me to several vx dealers, some said no it can not be programed, it either works or it does not. others were not sure so they said bring the car in and we will have a look at it. So I am still not any nearer to getting an answer, but if I do get any more information I will be glad to let you know.
    cheers
    Ed.

It is a hand held computer type of thing that plugs in to the diagnostics plug situated under the front ash tray,It can access the ECU and read the fault codes that may be stored when the ECU light comes on. It helps the techincians to get to the faulty part faster[eliminates the prosess of elimination]. also it can be used to reprogram thing that the ECU controls. I hope I have helped a bit with you understanding what it does.

    Thanks Ed.

I had a browse on eBay and saw that you can pick up what looks like a legit copy of Tech 2 for Opel/Vauxhall plus connecting leads for about $150 US dollars!

I'm considering adding heated seats, so that'll probably be a re-programming job too. That and with the ability to fault find the car myself, I might even save money!

I've already bought a copy of TIS for £8.24 all in! Isn't eBay cool?

p.s. If I can get Tech 2 to work, I'll be more than happy to plug it in for club members cars too!

Default ...never posted about this before, but should have!

About three weeks ago I took the plunge and ordered a TC switch for my 04 3.0 V6. Two days later switch arrived and was promptly plugged into the appropriate slot.

    Dash board went mad!

Lights flashed, trip computer was changing its settings all went black

Then after a few seconds all came back as normal (I thought thats bu88erd it!)

Started up engine and drove off, all seemed ok try the switch then lTC light came on dash board it worked! fantastic, it actually worked!.

Telling my mates about it and the one said "why do you want to turn off the TC anyway?" and the other answered "cos he can!" - thought good enough answer for me!

With the reaction that your car gave with the "tc" switch It gives me the impression that it is controlled from thr ECU thus can be acctivated by the tech 2, I f it was "hard wired" then i doubt if you would have got the reaction that you did.i wonder???? tech 2 may do it.

One thing that doesn't work is disconnecting the battery, waiting for 15 mins and re-connecting it. Yep, I just tried that and no go.

'Tis funny that MJEDs car re-acted so strongly?
I'm wondering if there's a knack to this, like was the ignition ON when the switch was plugged in, I did it with the ignition off...
