    Default ELM327 Querys....

    Hi Guys/Gals

I recieved my Elm327 today and scanned the car...after finding the port which was pretty well hidden under the ashtray So plugged in the laptop installed the software and scanned the car...NO ERROR CODES...hmm

I did have a spanner symbol but after scanning the car and clicking clear codes (although it didn't find any) it DID clear the spanner symbol..

I still have my Airbag Light Warning light on and would think it should of give me a code for that but it didn't. Any Ideas why???

Is there anything else I can do or any other software that can be used that may help me diagnose the airbag fault???

it's because the ELM327 only does so much.. it's not an 'in depth' tool like tech2 or vauxcom...

there are as many as 13 different systems on the car and most readers only read 1 or 2... the airbag is controlled by it's own controller which the ELM wouldn't have access to..

to diagnose the airbag fault it really does need to be connected to TECH2 or Vauxcom...

to be fair.. there are loads of code readers on ebay that claim to access all the cars ecu's, but unfortunatly only a few actually do..

ohh didn't realise that....at least it sorted the spanner light out...
Is there anywhere I can take the car to be read by Tech2 or Vauxcom other than the dealers who just rip us off??? or can I buy Tech2 of Vauxcom??

TECH2 is about £4.5K.. so not small change

Vauxcom is £550, so yet again not small change...

unless you really want to seriously work on your car and others it's far cheaper to pay £45 at the dealers..

Just looked up ELM327 scan tool.... it's very underspecced and won't sort any major airbag faults..

new modules are £550 fitted and programmed to your car...

if it's a new car to you and it didn't have the lamp on when you bought it, it could well be the underseat wiring to the seat airbags, but it will need diagnosing properly first... don't mess with any of the airbag systems as you can set them off if you aren't careful..

I asked Vx to set my clock when it went in for some warranty work but I was told that Tech 2 couldn't set the clock. All I do now is take the glove box out & reconnect the CD30 for a couple of minutes. 10 minutes work tops.
