    Default Security update and Zonealarm

Downloaded the latest microsoft security update last night and my web access promptly failed. Couldn't do anything to restore it.

Just happened to notice a warning on a computer at work that stated that the update conflicts with the Zone alarm security suite and completely blocks web access.

So if you know anyone that uses Zone alarm and can't get on the net, this is the reason why. Well done Microsoft for checking their updates don't screw up peoples PCs! (Which they clearly didn't)

I got fed up with Microsoft and moved to UBUNTU 8 (Linux based) which is free. It's excellent and far more intuitive to use, however video playback is a problem at the moment as the Linux based players are not brilliant

Strangely enough it happened to me. I had to restore my computer back to the 28 June to get the internet to work. Tried tonight and couldn't get on again so had to back date again.

Is the solution to remove zone alarm...

My staff have just taken on a new contract, keeping a large corporation's PC estate up to date with security patching and anti-virus, and part of their job is to download the patches when they come out, instal them on test PCs and monitor for any conflicts - they only get to roll them out to the Customer when it's confirmed there are no issues - Microsoft don't do that and don't claim to either.

My computer wanted to install a "Malicious Software Remover" from Microsoft this evening.

Being rather cynical, I declined on the basis that Microsoft's definition of 'Malicious' probably means "anything not written, published, owned or controlled by Microsoft Corporation"

John35 - You need to reset zonealarm to medium settings (i'm assuming you have it set to high) Zonealarm have yet to sort out the patch for the 'problem' of the internet address fiasco.

Zonealarm are due to release a patch and have directions on their website.

Had the same problem too, uninstalled Zone alarm and everthing works fine again, do you recon it's worth just relying on the windows fire wall and forget Zone alarm altogether?
