    Default Speedo Calibration

    Hi Folks,

I changed my front tyres to 225/45/17 on standard sri facelift rims.

I think my speedo is well and truly out. Is it possible to get a speedo recalibrated from the local stealer??

Or should I go back to the 215/50/17 dont like the extra mileage the smaller tyres are showing up in the car!!

I think I remember someone saying there was a setting that could be changed by Tech2. Maybe someone will confirm this

Its such a small amount its not worth bothering with. But you can get it done if you want.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

The difference really is barely noticeable. IIRC it's the difference between reading 2mph over or 3mph over at 60mph. If you're that bothered, change back to 215/50 tyres...

    Easiest way is like this
    Travel at 60mph
One mile should take you exactly one minute

My local council (cough, cough, spoke to the "right person") were kind enough to supply me with the locations of two roads that are ideal for this

One of the roads is exactly half a mile between two junctions, so travelling at 30mph this also takes me one minute
It actually takes about 61 seconds, and I've tried it in both directions!

    Check this site: http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html

Your new tyres are about 2% smaller so it will add 2% to your mileage, that's a reading of 20,400 miles after 20,000 actual miles. Not much really.

And it should indicate 1.2 mph faster than you are actually doing at 60 mph.

As parapaul said it'll only read about 1mph more under at 60-70mph.

If it bothers you then yes you can get it Tech 2d to correct it. Personally I wouldn't waste the money for the difference the 225/45/17s make to the reading.

    Heres another idea
With so many local authorities having now installed "Your speed is" signs, use that!
There seem to be quite a few near me now and have tested them at an indicated 30 and 40mph, and all but one are fairly close

There is one in Rosyth that seems to be out by "quite a bit"
I've driven towards this one at 30mph and it displays either 25 or 26mph, yet the one in the other direction is almost spot on
