    Angry Greenlight Insurance - I'm F***ing furious!

I knew when I changed from a 1.9 diesel to a 2.8 petrol that my premium was going to go up a bit. I phoned Greenlight, who I'm with at the moment, before I bought this Signum, to ask what the new premium would be. The guy I spoke to was a bit vague, mumbled a lot but the upshot was they'd only want a £45 admin fee. Result!

The dealer I bought from arranged a week's free cover cover for me, so I've phoned Greenlight back today to tell them I got the car and wanted the cover to start on Saturday. It started fine, gave them the policy details, the make & model of the new car, and they put me on hold. For about 5 minutes.

Now, bearing in mind Greenlight specialise in modified car insurance, and actually quoted cheaper than Adrian Flux last year, guess what they've decided to offer me?

    Go on.....guess....

They'll insure the Signum, but NOT if I modify it in any way! Apparently the Signum 'isn't the sort of car they normally deal with'! They won't even give me a quote to cover it with any mods. Bunch of useless, incompetent, arses.

So I've had to start from scratch, phoning the usual suspects, and the BEST I can get so far is £1024 with Adrian Flux! That's DOUBLE what I'm paying now! If I'd known that beforehand I would have seriously reconsidered this car. My only hope up to yet is Chris Knott, who should beat AF, but for some reason they're not open today...

I haven't been this angry for a long time. I feel emails and phone calls to their head office coming on

Sorry to hear that Paul, that is quite a difference compared to what you where paying before...

Hopefully, Chris Knott will come back with a better deal, compared to what you have been quoted,; so fingers crossed for you

See you at Billing at the weekend, looking forward to seeing the car

Maybe Duncan Shan Signumboy or one of the other Signum Hotshots may be able to point you in the right direction. Suppose it doesn't help that the Signum is more erm.....'esoteric'.

I use Elephant or Admiral every year for the Vectra, Astra & TVR and they can't be beaten. Give them a go they might surprise you.

I can't see why the hell the Signum should be any different to any other similar car - it's not an exotic supercar or something FFS! lol (Comments not aimed at you BTW John, more Paul's insurers).

I can't believe that they can't give a decent price for a standard Signum - which is what it is!

I'm with Direct Line and they're been pretty good with mods. Maybe worth getting quotes for the standard car direct from the usual large insurers like DL, Norwich Union etc?

Wonder why they deem the Sigbum as a high risk motor if modified but not the Vectra?

When I changed mine the company I was with would not insure the new car in standard form.
    Same engine but different model.

I had to cancel the policy which had around 4 months left and take out a new one at £425. Then they tried to charge me an Admin fee which after much ranting they agreed to set at the refund I was due for the four months.

Still £425 I'd not built in to the process of changing though. Think you're right to be miffed.
