Unhappy Very limited engine upgrades !

Having had my R/R results on saturday (2.0 turbo = 210 bhp - 238.5 lbft) it's got me intersted in upgrading the engine for more power.
The problem is though, other than having a map upgrade, there ain't much out there you can do to it (unless someone knows different).
When i've had FORDS in years gone by, within months of the car coming onto the market, you could get loads of upgraded gear that bolted onto or into the engines like cams, adjustable vernier pullies, head polishing and porting etc. but the on the Vectra 2.0T hardly a mention of anything like this !
Remaps, air filters, exhaust system, turbo and possibly injectors (with map upgrade) and thats about your lot.
    Why is this ?
Is the engine at its limit mechanically already ?
    Please- someone enlighten me !

I'm pretty sure vernier pullies are available. Probably wrong though.....
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

It's nothing to do with any limits on the engine - the engine can take a significant amount more.

The main reason, I believe, is that it's not an engine that the main Vx tuners have really bothered with, simply because that particular one (Z20NET) only appears in the Vectra C and Signum. The 2.0Ts in Astra/Zafira etc. are more widespread in the range i.e. more of them around as they were used in more than one model, so more scope for the tuners to make their money from those engines.

With it also being in the Saab 9-3, that's also a route to follow if you want to go down the more specialised tuning route - although even known Saab tuners like Abbot (for example) don't specifically offer anything for the Z20NET as other guys have found - they want you to 'leave it with them to see what they can do. - which unsurprisingly the guys haven't exactly been keen to do! lol

Obviously there's the BSR Stage 3 (soon to be Stage 4) which is as you've said above is 'only' a different map, injectors, exhaust and turbo (on the Stage 4).

I guess it's down to development costs at the end of the day. I'm sure if you gave your car to a specialist tuner they could do a whole lot to it - all the sort of stuff you were asking about - but as a one-off it's going to be £££££.

yep that's about it really what's been said above. I have rang different company's over the past week's & they have all said the same. No development done because there is no demand for this engine to be tunned & is not very popular. One company said leave the car with us for a day or two but said it could cost up to £800 for a live remap . Best sticking to what's availible really (bsr) at least you know it's tried & tested

Seems to be that my only option is to move on up and go stage 3 as Duncan has.
As my car has no T/C, it won't be an issue as D found out on saturday.
    So, lets look at costs............
I have the st.1 BSR and st.3 is the next progression.
St.4 isn't an option i believe as it's for cars that are from the 2007 build so '57' reg onwards. Mine is an '07' reg so 2006 build (probably).
If i go st.3 , i shouldn't have to pay for the PPC unit again should i ???
So only paying for the updated map, injectors & exhaust. I think i'm correct in saying there is a filter included aswell but i have a K&N so that wouldn't be needed.
What should i be looking to pay for this then ?

The issue was only on rolling roads, on the road there's no issue with the TC. Just clarifying in case you thought Stage 3 somehow gave TC issues.

No, you'll keep the same PPC unit which will simply have the Stage 3 map loaded into it through your PC.

    Correct.

The air filter isn't part of the Stage 3, or Stage 1, kits - it's an optional extra you can have.

As long as the prices haven't changed much since this thread, you're looking at around £1260 all in for the upgrade. I think you can now go through LMF for the Stage 3, but maybe worth checking with Justin at BSR first.

Is the stage 4 still only for the newer 2.0T's? Stage 3 is great but if more power is available....

It's currently only listed on the Swedish site as being for 07 onwards. I wonder why you can't put it onto an earlier one. I know the 07 engine has a few differences, which is why it doesn't need the new injectors for the Stage 3 kit, but I wonder why you can't put a Stage 4 onto say an earlier car that has had the Stage 3 as the only difference that I can see between an 07 Stage 3 and 4 is a different turbo.

Mmmmmmm.... replacement turbo's are not cheap. Probably why stage 4 is not yet available for the earlier 2.0T's.

Well FIL 4822, stage 3 IS worth it, loads a fun!
We know it works out of the box, without any trial and error you would have with as custom kit - although having a one off does feel good and is fun to plan..

Stage 4 is coming for the earlier models, but they told me I'd have to go to Sweden for fitting and calibration Still want it though Price was £1000-£1200.
