    Default bmw 320i

    Hi everyone,

    Out of interest:-

    I drove a new bmw 320i today & it's rubbish IMO.

I don't like the look of the exterior - like an old Toyota - it was black as well, a very flattering colour so it should have looked the dog's.

Inside felt really "plasticy" & cheap, not screwed together very well.

2.0 petrol felt sluggish, like it was holding back.

Handling is very good, sporty but not too harsh like an Audi.

Didn't like the steering, it's heavy & pulled off line by minor blemishes in the road

Start & stop button is really nice, but more cos it's a novelty I think. (I couldn't get the "key" out after I turned it off lol ).

Seriously, the vec is leagues ahead.

The old bm 3 series was much better.

I hope that the 320d, 330i etc are better to drive & have better interiors cos this one is cr@p.

I think the new BMW styling is one of those Marmite things...you either love it or hate it...personally I love Marmite, but hate the BMW style...

I work for a BMW dealer. The 320i isn't my favourite car of them all because, like people have said, it's not the most powerful.

I've driven every model in BMW's range from the 116i up to the M6 so I know what I like. The three-litre Diesel is the best engine they do by far, be it in an X5 or a 3 series. Or get a 320d - 163bhp standard! (Or even better, a 120d because that's a small hatchback with RWD, 163bhp and acres of torque!)

The styling is a grower. Like most people I experienced a sharp intake of breath when the new 7 series was unveiled, but it grew on me and I really like it now. And I love the way they're taking the styling, it's distinctive.

My one piece of advice - if you buy a BMW, buy the M Sport model - big wheels, bodykit and all the sporty touches that make it look more aggressive.

my parents are looking at the 330d and it is a stunning car and drives like a dream. im just not a fan of the engine in the 320i as it doesnt compliment the car IMO.

The 320i is a bit average but the 330i is a bit of a cracker. We also have a 130i (same engine) & I can do nothing less than praise the engine. In saying that, the Veccy 3.2 V6 is sublime & I love it. On paper the 3ltr BMW engine is more powerful but I reckon the Veccy 3.2 goes just as hard, especially if you put it up against the 3 series 3ltr.

As far as the direction BMW have taken in terms of design & material used, this is a subjective thing really. IMO, they have dropped the ball in the 3,5 & 7. However, for the 1 series I reckon it is OK. Not brilliant, but OK. Besides for the money you can get a 130i here & for the performance it offers it is great. The 330i on the other hand is A$30000 more & therefor far to expensive for what it is.
