    Default 5 for 6?

Just a quick one, ive a 2.2direct on a 54 plate, think it goes really well but sometimes (let me know ur opinions) i feel it could do with 6 gears on the motorway, it will pull like a train all the way to noughty speeds but it would be nicer and calmer in 6th, would any1 recomend swapping the 'box, if so which one! im guessing it wouldnt be a problem to change it???

the 2.0T box would fit it, but TBH the ratios are designed for the turbo, not a NA car...the other problem is finding one, and the gearchange..

the m-i-l's 2.2 has the 5 speed and it sits at 70mph quite nicely.. TBH you have to be doing far more than that to make it 'thrashy'.. Don't forget as well, that the 2.2's LOVE to rev.. they make the best power and torque at higher revs, so don't try and cut it's legs off.....

if you need to do it, it IS possible, but it's a big job..

if you fancy it, then an independant specialist would do it for you...someone like midpoint garage ... but it won't be cheap..

Mine is the same. Fine everywhere but on the motorway it revs just a little to high and its like it always wants you to go faster which I enjoy most of the time but its hard to have a relaxing motorway journey.

Could you not fit a 6 speed box from a later 2.2 direct?
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
