    Default My 1st problem....Airbag Help...Please

    Ok here goes...

I recently bought a Vectra CDTI SRI as some of you may know from my last post, The car was such bargain that I couldn't resist buying it even though the Airbag Light is on...

Was told by the the guy I bought it off that it could be a sensor or the module... as far as I know the car has never been accident damaged so don't think the airbags have ever gone off

would this cause my spanner indication on the dash also???

I've read about a code reader to get the exact code but just can't afford that at the moment after buying the car...anybody wish to help a newbie..

Would be willing to drive locally to a fellow member who has a code reader (obviously would give beer tokens for the help)

I suspect spanner light is on for a separate reason as why use that light for the airbag when it already has it's own light.

Usual cause of airbag light is the connector under the front seats for the pre-tensioners and seat airbags. Be careful tampering with the wires though - don't want to risk setting the seat airbags off. Even if you do find a loose wire or multisocket, the only way to extinguish the light is via a code reader.

Best to get the fault codes read out sooner rather than later. Was the car bought private or from garage? If the latter, was there any warranty?

if the airbag light was already on, then it's unlikely it's down to the seat being moved....

to diagnose both faults ( as there are more than one there for sure) is to gt it hooked into TECH2 at the dealers, or get it hooked onto 'VAUXCOM' which can also access the same modules..

over 90% of airbag faults mean the light can't be 'just turned off' and if thats the case then it's going to start to get expensive..

AS above, if you have just bought this car, or have within the last 3 months, take it back to the seller ( assuming it's a trader) as they are legally oblidged to repair it for you...
