Default The Vectra As A Taxi... With A Bit Of A Surprise.

I've already shown my dad's Veccy on here when I first joined (although at the time I passed it off as my own).

It's a 1.9CDTi SRi. Looks the biz in Silver Lightning. Bought in this colour as he'd wanted an Edition 100, but at the time they were out he hadn't had his SXi [see photo below] long. Also, the Edition 100 being available only with a petrol engine, it wouldn't have been an ideal taxi.

I remember at the time, the SXi was a lovely car and looked fantastic. Comparing the photos of the two cars though, the SRi is way out front. The most noticeable differences being the wheels, the clear side repeaters, the door handles, front bumper and - of course - the colour. In my opinion, the Silver lightning is far better than the Star Silver.

The SRi is not common as a taxi, but there are a few starting to make appearances on the ranks. Something I never expected to see though was a Vectra GSi with a meter and 'No Smoking' signs.

And this is a genuine photograph. This GSi is a licensed private hire car. This 3.2 V6 has not been converted to LPG and, as such, must cost a fair bit to run.

Horrendous amounts, I had a 2.5 V6 Omega ten yrs ago, it did 17mpg and unleaded was £3.20 a gallon back then.

I've been thinking of getting an Elite estate if the right money is spoken, but right now I've one foot out of the door.

SRi with flakes would be my 1st choice if only VX would step into the current day and realise that rear electric windows wouldn't ruin the overall package.
