Hi - new to this forum.

My wifes car is 53 reg Vectra SXi which I don't normally drive. Lately I have been driving it and am alarmed at the way it handles.
If you are driving along a road with any sort of minor bumps or ruts etc the car seems to track to these and is fairly uncontrolable. My wife says its always been like that (she's had it 2 years). I use to have a 3.2 GSi and althought the suspension is slightly different I wouldn't expect the difference that is felt. Sometimes at speeds of as little as 35-40mph the car feels like its on tracks and is going to follow the bumps and ruts.

Has anybody else had this problem or know of possible causes?

    Thanks.

First thing you need to get checked is the tracking really. Sounds like it could be that. Have you looked at the front tyres?, are they wearing evenly or unevenly on parts?

Soft suspension is a side-effect of car design now
In order to isolate the body from noise and shake the suspension has more isolation between components, ie bushes
Providing the car drives straight on a flat and level reoad then all is in order
However, at 5 years old it may be worth having the suspension checked for worn shocks or bushes

Check the basics mate could be something "obvious"...tire pressure even on all 4, alignment front and back and suspension.

I've got an SXi, only had it 2 weeks, and mine does the same, it doesn't feel right though, but may just be how they are. I'd love to know if you sort it.

    Default Vectra Poor Handling

    Thanks for responses folks.

All obvious problems been checked and discounted.
Rear tyres almost new, front tyres brand new (last week). The tyres that were removed had worn perfectly and were purely low on tread.
Local V/X "experts" say they have never heard of the problem so need to have it in and road test, etc, etc, i.e no clue but pay us for doing nothing!

It does however have a very tiny knocking noise from somewhere under the rear seat area when you go over speed bumps (even slowly).

If I get to bottom of problem I'll post my findings.

    Cheers everyone,
    Andy.
