The engine management system (EMS) has lost communication with one or more sensors
This normally means that sensor has failed and requires replacement
Such sensors are either required or essential for the engine to run correctly
However, the EMS can run in limp mode without the signals from the sensor and the EMS light will come on
Typically the revs are limited to prevent engine damage
Book the car in for diagnosis and repair as soon as possible
cheers
has it happened to you car? could be something to do with the lambda probe if it has!!
not sure cos it happened quite soon after i bought the car so dont know if im getting the performance i should
It will also happen when a sensors detects a reading out of the expected range and will put the engine into limp mode to protect it i.e. the sensor would still be working perfectly and communicating fully with the EMS. A perfect example being a split boost hose - sensor detects an out of range reading so forces limp mode. Sensor working fine and communicating fully and detecting a physical problem. So it's not only due to a loss of communication/faulty sensor.
My only experience was in a TD hire car. You know for sure that it's happened - it was like driving a car with a little diesel engine and no turbo! If you are doubtful it sounds more like its just under-performing a bit for some other reason?so dont know if im getting the performance i should
