Default Anyone Have any Knowledge of this...

I've confirmed the order for my new van, which is being kitted out this week.

Just like to know if anyone has any experiance/opinions with the Van I'm getting...

    ...Its a 2008 (08) VW Caddy 2.0 SDi (Non-Turbo Model).

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris

I drove one for about 40 miles a few weeks ago. Seemed well put together, VERY slow (especially on the hills) but for the size of it it swallowed a decent amount of kit.
Couldn't comment on mpg as I thrashed its arse for the whole 40 miles (think I still only put about a gallon in to fill it back up)

Very slow but well screwed together. Was discussing one of these with a customer today, he rates it but wishes he went for the more powerful version.

    ^^ haha, quality!

I dont get much say in the van, as the franchise company I've signed up to do a bulk purchase of them all, and then lease them out. I personally would have prefered a Turbo one. Maybe, if I dont get on with it, they may be able to sort something out.

The only 2 things that worry me is:

    1) The Fuel Ecomony - i.e, Its having a 400 Ltr water tank, so thats going to really weigh down the van, let alone slow it down if filled fully.

    2) The gearbox breaking while towing - Weight of said 400 Ltr Water Tank...

Just been looking on VW's website, got some more info on it:

Its only 69PS (What this is in BHP I havent a clue?)

Comes with a 6-Speed Manual Box

Looking at the spec, and if I could choose, I would at least go for the 1.9 TDi.

Thanks for the comments though, gives me a good heads up for what to watch!

    [edit] PS
This unit (German: Pferdestärke = horse strength) is no longer a statutory unit, but is still commonly used in Europe, South America and Japan, especially by the automotive and motorcycle industry. It was adopted throughout continental Europe with designations equivalent to the English "horsepower", but mathematically different from the British unit. It is defined by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)[2] in Braunschweig as exactly:

    1 PS = 75 kilopond·metre/second ~= 735.5 newton·m/s ~= 735.5 W ~= 0.7355 kW ~= 0.98632 hp (SAE)
The PS was adopted by the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) and then by the automotive industry throughout most of Europe, under varying names. In 1992, the PS was rendered obsolete by EEC directives, when it was replaced by the kilowatt as the official power measuring unit. It remained in use for commercial and advertising purposes, as customers were not familiar with the use of kilowatts for engines.[citation needed]
