Default Strange noise - rear near side

    1.9cdti 150 auto estate.

Strange noise from rear near side. Biit of a back ground noise when driving at any speeds - especially around town at 30 / 40 mph. First few times, I thought that there was a plane overhead.

Also, only every now and then, there is a bit of a grinding noise coming fromt he same place at slow speed braking.

The car has only done 25,000 miles. it was serviced only last month, and no mention was made of brake wear etc. Also, i would have expected the fronts to go first ?

I know i should take it to the dealers, but I was just wondring if anyone had any ideas.

grinding noise is almost definitely worn brakes, and for some reason some vecs eat them. Your other noise could well be binding, which would explain the early wear...

My best guess would be a funny wheel bearing as Ditchp said

With Vectra-C's and Signums, if you ever come to the conclusion that your rear bearings are shot, it's often (not always) in fact the rear tyres that are the cause.
