    Default Tyres - Again!

Advise please, but specifically those of you who have experience of trying different XL rates tyres on the 3.0 CDTi.

I've been running Goodyear F1 XL 225/45/17. Very good tyres but they don't last 5 mins! I don't drive very hard, so perhaps it's down to the weight of the 3.0?

Anyway, can you recommend any XL tyres? I idealy want reasonable grip, but with plenty of wear?

    Thanks.

I have goodyear sp sport MAXX. They seem a very good tyre. Although I haven't done many miles with them yet. £215 for the pair. 235/40/18 95Y
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    I have compared the NCT5 on 215/50R17 and F1 GSD3 on 225/45R17
    Typical life is about :
14K if you do not swap off the front
25K if you swap rears to front as they wear

I normally swap rear to front as tyres wear, so a pair of tyres lasts me about 8 months, ie two new tyres every 4 months

I am currently testing two different types of Michelin Primacy against the F1 GSD3
They both have the same treadwear / traction / temperature ratings

When comparing tyres, always look at the treadwear / traction / temperature ratings and compare

TBH I wouldn't EVER touch a Falken tyre again, they are only any good in the dry (and preferably in VERY hot). Wet performance is not good at all.

It's on the sidewall of the tyres
There are also websites that list all the tyre specs, such as pneusonline

    thanks.

Just got a pair of Falken ZE912 225/45/17 XLs

Seem ok, and the reviews seemed to suggest that the Falkens out last the GY F1s & grip better too. Time will tell I guess.

Got them from CAMSKILL on line £58.30 each delivered.

I was reading about those Falken ZE912 and they are supposed to be made of harder compound than previous Falkens and therefore last longer. I did have some Falkens on a Focus a few years ago mind and they were the worst tyres I have ever experienced in the wet!! The ZE912 is well priced though.
