    Default Oil

Does anyone know what Gearbox oil must be used in the 1.8 xel engines gearbox. Its a five speed manual , seems im getting a rattle when the engine is hot . A normal drive for 200 or 300 miles doesnt rattle . This is on idle only with the feet off the clutch pedal , push in the pedal and the noise dissapears. Someone told me it might be the wrong gearbox oil used and when very hot and gears used very regularly the oil is loosing its power ???????

Sounds like it could be clutch release bearing.

Don't quote me, but the oil used to be Dextron ii..

But I'd point at the release bearing as well, did they change it when you had the gearbox replaced?? losing power and the rattle makes me think the clutch could be on it's way.. More likely than the oil mate..

just wondering on getting a gearbox from a breakers yard , there seems to be a few Vectra C`s breaking around now . Or sell the thing and get a Mondeo ?

Fraud's ain't much better... The only ford owner in our family swears he'll never buy another..

If you could get a unit you could test, or a unit from a specialist dismantler ( who usually check them before sale), this would probably be a good route. Just sounds a lot like box more than oil to me.. If the rattle cease's when you load the clutch by pressing the pedal then it's either clutch or gearbox bearings IMO.. Round town 1st/2nd/3rd get a pasting, on a run you're in 5th.. either ends of the gear cluster.. Run this past techwolf , he'd prob have a better idea, or he may have seen this before..
