Default VXR owners : Difference between 255 and 280 PS VXR

After reading the article that the car tax changes to pre 06 cars may be rolled back, im becomming tempted by a 55 plate VXR.

Especially given that it can reach 300bhp with a remap and the revised airbox from the 280 PS version ?

What other changes were there, and crucially, will they be worth £220 a year more ?

The 280 versions, apart from the obvious extra 25bhp, had extra tweaks done to the steering/suspension and exhaust(?). That was the main stuff, I don't think any of the spec differed specifically between the 255 and 280 versions, just the usual year on year tweaks that would happen.

wonder how different the handling is. Might have to test drive one to compare as the one i drove was a 280 PS

From what I've heard, it's quite a noticeable difference.

    As Duncan as already said...

I can't see why you couldnt get a 255 BHP Vectra VXR performing similar to the 280 version.... and you'll get lower road tax.

So, if you're able to save '000's then go for a 255 version and remap it...

Having going round Rockingham in a VXR Estate the other day i was very impressed with the handling, it was like it was on rails and very easy to drive

Cant remember, sorry... either way, there isnt a lot you can do to the suspension anyway as its electronically controlled. I've stuck Eibachs on mine, but may be changing these again soon...

    what deanos said.

I took the vec vxr round Thruxton on the track day and to me as the driver, the car seemed to handle really well (really refined power delivery, and went round the track really well). I tried the hatch and estate versions and seemed to have no problems with handling etc.

although I didn't feel like the car was out of shape anywhere, the instructor in the vxr estate did! Don't know if i'd annoyed the him, or he'd just had a bad day. He kept saying i was loosing control, back end sliding out etc... wanted me to brake etc. The instructor in the hatch (or any other vxr's) didn't have any problems at all...

lol... well its funny you mentioned that....., I had an 'incident' with one of the instructors in a Vectra VXR as well.... took me 10 minutes to calm him down at the end of the session....

Lets just say that he didnt like 120 mph through one of the corners... havent seen him again... he wasnt at Rockingham...

Again, the car wasnt out of control at any point, but we did use the rumble strips on the exit... I think thats when he lost 2lb...

Oh... and no, I didnt brake either... no need at Thruxton on the back section.... just balance the car, keep the throttle under control, nice line and BAM... 120 MPH

EDIT 1: In the previous VXR8 the instructor was so complementary about my driving, so I think it must have been the same instructor as you got... a bit nervous...

EDIT 2: Mind you..... I dont blame him......
