big problem

hi can anybody help light that has the pic of a car and a spanner through it has come on also the drive is hellish and a lack of power also cruise control has stopped working . looks like my first trip into vx any ideas folks

Sounds like "limp-home" mode.... could be any number of things mate, I wouldn't even want to speculate!

Definate trip to the stealer mate. It is indeed in limp home mode and will have fault codes stored. It won't let you use CC in limp home mode, just to further protect the engine. There really could be any one of scores of faults or combinations of faults.

did you do ant thing to the car for it to go in to limp mode ?

have you tried it again since you switched off the ignition some times can be a minor fault (will be stored in memory) but not be present next time you drive

ye i tried that but i was hoping in tha morning it would be ok but knowing my luck it wont. the only thing i did do today was disconnect the battery to give it a charge as i think i am needing a new one

If you've removed the battery, check the fuses as there's a strong possibillity you've blown one when putting it back, it's easy done i did it when changing a radio once.

Often it can simply be a blocked airflow sensor. I know two veccy owners who've had their car go into get you home mode because of this

If you have a 1.9 diesel then it could be the "water in fuel" warning. Try draining a bit off the bottom of the fuel filter.
