Default The best all round engine for the vectra c???

    firstly 'hi'!

i/we currently own a 06 Focus ST and a 08 corsa VXR, both i love!

with a baby on the way ( ) we're thinking of chopping one of them in for a more practical 5 door car...

scanning through the ads I cant believe how much vectra/signum you can get for your money secondhand!

I've driven a 2.2 petrol and 2.8T ( ) and just cant make up my mind as to what to go for. i'm pretty tempted by the 1.9 (150) and 3.0 v6 diesels too.

i wasnt blown away by the 2.2 petrol and really liked the 2.8T but the £400 tax bill is putting me off... we do about 10k miles a year mixed driving and i do like as bit of poke

will probably not be buying until the insignia hits the streets so hopefully (for me) the prices will be even better, i just don't know what spec to try to find!!!! - too much choice lol.

Any suggestions? anyone driven a 1.9 (150), 3.0 and 2.8T?? how do they all compare?

I love the 3.0. Bought the estate as we had 2 girls fairly close together & wanted the extra boot space (double buggey etc).

The 1.9 is easier to tune , if you want to get your hands dirty. Can't say about the 2.8. Never driven one, but as I get over 40 mpg from the 3.0 I ain't too bothered.

Car Tax for the 2.8 T works out about £1.15 a day

diesel tax is what 50 odd p per day

Damn sure the 2.8 T is worth an extra £3.50 a wek in car tax.

2.0T good mpg is achievable if driven accordingly and the tax will be £300/year when it jumps up. A great car with plenty of potential for tuning if that interests you, owning an ST and VXR makes me think it will

I had the 1.9 (150) and now have the 2.8 (230), and there are pros and cons to both.

The 1.9 is a good drive, quite nippy and very easily to tune if that is your thing, but it seems like it was designed on a budget
and some of the parts just aren't up to the standard they should be. Basically, you either get a good one or a bad one but I would be
very reluctant to keep one out of warranty.

The 2.8 on the other hand is silky smooth and doesn't feel as quick as it actually is. I haven't heard about any serious/common
issues with it yet (touch wood), which is always a good thing but all of the VX petrols seem pretty reliable. The obvious downside
to the 2.8 though is the £400 tax, added insurance and the fuel, which incidentally isn't quite as bad as I thought it would be.

To give you an idea of the fuel: (my limited experience)

    1.9 (150)

    motorway (70-75) - 60mpg
    General mixed - 42-45mpg
    Town/city (slow traffic) - 35mpg

    2.8 V6 T

    Motorway (70-75) - 37mpg
    General mixed - 24-28mpg
    Town/city (slow traffic) - 18-20mpg

If I was buying again then it would be the 2.8 all the way, but don't discount the 2.0T, there are a lot of satisfied owners on here and t
hey give a good balance between power and MPG if driven correctly. (he says trying to think of someone on here that would )

i have had the 2.0T in Z20LET form in an astra coupe and GSI and driven a 200ps zafira 2.0T which i like too - is the 2.0T in the vectra C 'just' the 170 version or did tey ever do it in 200 flavour??

my ST does around 25mpg mixed and the corsa about 30 for the same so as long as its not below them i'd be happy!

The 2.0t in the Vectra was only ever 175ps (not sure if they did something with the injectors from 07 on) but
never got close to 200ps. A BSR stage 1 map will see you in the region of 220ps though.

The 2.8 seems roughly the same as the ST by the sound of it.

As Pricey said it's 175Bhp and 195 lb/ft, but will see in the region of 220Bhp and 230-245lb/ft torque with BSR Stage 1. Stage 3 is another jump as well. I've seen 40mpg out of mine on the motorway at 70mph.

EDIT: As big Sig said it's a different engine. Z20NET

I would go with the 2.0T, Best of both worlds. Its a different engine to the ZLet in the astras and zaffies. 2.0T and BSR
