Default Police stepping in front of car.

I was returning from the post office today. I passed a cop car sat at the side of the road with the boot open facing the traffic.
I was not speeding as i seen them setting up earlier in the morning
When i stopped at the traffic lights "pole position" a cop stepped into the road in front of my car and was stood looking at my number plate and tax disc.
He never even acknowledged me just looked the car up and down and started speaking on his radio while stepping back on the pavement.
The lights changed and i drove off.
Why are they so ignorant about things.
If he had a problem with the plate why not say something instead of just looking at me like a lump of cr@p on his shoe.

The latest thing that they are using the mobile speed camera's for is Number plate checks, if your plate is not legally spaced(as yours looks to be in some picture's) or does not conform to the law regarding font or manufacturer badges at the left edge side replacing the UK or European sign(the only 2 allowed) you can expect a letter through the post, no points but a fixed penalty.
Shame the government continue's to find ways to penalise motorists further instead of using valuable resources to catch real criminals.

Well maybe i'll get a letter in the post then. My plate's are mis aligned. just the 55 having a space in between. But i thought if he had any issue's with it he would have stopped me.

As long as everything else is Ok, tax, insurance etc, they would know by the time the other PC stepped in front of you, just a letter through the post, I believe you get the option to fit correct plates and get the letter stamped by an MOT garage to confirm they are Legal to avoid the fine, depends upon local force possibly but here in the North East they do give that option.

If those photos are correct, that number plate might have caught his attention resulting in a check and report

Or it could be simply that it was an ANPR camera which couldn't read your plates and he wanted to confirm what they were. If you were going to be penalised, you would have been stopped. VDRS are not issued through the post.

Times too short to speak to everyone that drives past.

"Why are they so ignorant about things."

    From one of the 'they'
