Default 2.2 autos any good ?

Just thinking about trading the car in soon and have been looking at getting an estate.
All the 07 2.2 direct on the supermarket sites motorhouse etc are auto boxes just wondered is this just a coincidence or did they make the estate a lot with automatic box.
Also are they any good would have probably preffered manual but maybe a change would be nice.

i have the auto 2.2 , not direct but an 04 plate. I really like it. very smooth and it has the clutchless manual mode as well which you can switch to while driving. Well worth a wee test drive

Automatics now a days are pretty much like for like performance wise. There’s about one tenth of a second between equivalent manuals and autos from 0-60, so not really worth noting.
They are very smooth and an absolute pleasure to drive, and you do have more control over when and how they change gear than most people think, you do need to learn how to get the best from them though.
However, their one down fall, particularly in this day and age, is economy. Compared to an equivalent manual, they will lose at least 3-4mpg, more on some of the bigger engine models, (up to 6-7mpg !!!) so be prepared for that. (particularily around town)
I love my auto (though I’ve gone to a diesel now) but you do pay for it !!!

I have a 02 2.2 Auto. For me its the bee's knees. I would go for auto all the time. Beware of MPG thou. If ya can live with that, your on a winner!
