    Default Goodyear Excellence

Had four 225/45 17 Goodyear Excellence Y speed rated tyres fitted to my o6 3.0 Cdti Signum on Tuesday and after putting about 300 miles on them this week I'm pretty pleased with them.

Mainly been motorway and slow traffic miles but seem a little quieter than previous NCT 5 215/50 W rated (standard fit) and feel grippier although latter more likely due to new tyres v almost on wear indicators on old tyres

What did surprise me was price £361 inc valves, balance and VAT at my local, small town tyre dealer. They usually struggle to meet large chain prices but I've known the owners there for ages so get a good deal and cracking service so I'm happy to pay a few quid more but was well surprised at this price.

Anyone else have views on these tyres and whether £361 sounds good or are they just a lot cheaper than the NCT's they replace?

I've now got them on mine and I've found them quieter, grip seems better but I have not really tried them in the wet as yet, just have to wait and see what the wear rate is like.

Price-wise they are quite competitive as well.

Sounds good - thanks for the review.

Goodyear Excellence are in my shortlist when I next get tyres (along with Uniroyal Rainsport and Avon ZV5)

They are 91Y rating. Blackcircle are doing them fitted for just under £380 for if you find a Blackcircle fitter near you. National tyres cost over £540 for 4 at the moment.

The original fronts on mine lasted to 25k, the rears were then swopped to the front and then got replaced at 30k.

If yours is an auto the NEED to be 94Y XL. If its a manual, you just get away with 91Y, but only just.

Yes manual. I checked the handbook on load rating and no info. Guy who fitted the tyres checked kerb weight of my Siggy against Goodyear info and said ok, also said he'd never been asked that before.

Guess it depends how often I travel with three burly lads (or lasses) as passengers and a boot full of tools - not at all.

Got 23k out of OE NCT's on front and just over 20k out of replacements (NCT's again) although they did had a bit left in them when changed. Rears were 43k with a bit left (one had suffered two punctures in the last 3 weeks so thought time to change).

If Excellences get same I will be well pleased. I run them at 41 psi all round rather than recommended 39 as told this would reduce edge wear particularly as mainly motorway miles. Not sure if true but all tyres had worn evenly so will do the same again.
