Angry My Printer... hp 1200 ?anyone help

Has decided to give up the ghost,it was working last night, swicthed the pc on and there's nothing there, but what i can't understand is i hav'nt done anything to cause it to go on the blink..the icons have dissapeared,so i thought right i'll unistall it,and then reinstall which i have done 3 times.. with 3 failures..when it gets to the stage where it asked you to plug the thing in ,after 3 or 4 mins a red cross appeares on the cable icon and no install...?am i missing something here...Grateful for any input Chaps...cheers.

So the printer actually powers up?

Have you tried a test page? (sometimes pressing the resume button on the front for a few seconds will print a test page).

Have you tried uninstalling all the HP software (if present) from Add/Remove Programs, rebooting the machine and then doing the install again?

Have you tried the install but using a different USB port and/or cable?

    As above.
I have a HP psc 1215. Issues can start after auto updates of windows. Go to hp website, search your model no. and download latest version of software.
I recently bought a new computer with vista, and I have had to update most of my software, as xp programs tend not to run on vista. Compatability is a bummer.

    Might be worth try

I am going to assume windows XP here

    Start
    Settings
    Printers and Faxes
Select HP laserjet 1200 and right click

    make sure

    ''use printer offline''

    and

    ''pause printing''

    are unticked.

Right lads thanks for all replies, this as bin a right fiasco trying to get it up running again, but now all issues are resolved thanks again...by the way the problem all stems from my mobile phone being connected which i forgot all about it,removed it and hey presto install sucessful, don't know the why or wherefores though, but maybe someone else does.
