Default Handbrake knob and drinks holder handle??

On my Dads '02 Elite, the ahem 'Chrome' has flaked and peeled on the handbrake knob, and on the handle for the slidy cover on the drinks holder in the centre console....not only does it look a mess and scruffy, it is also quite sharp....I have painted these over with laquer but that too has come off and we are back to square one.

My questions are, are these two bits replaceable on their own and how would I go about fitting the new bits, as ive had a look and cant see anyway of removing anything to get these bits off.

Any help and advice is very much appreciated

Drinks holder bit is replaceable as said above.

Handbrake - in a word no. The handle assembly and trim are all part of the one part number of the whole handbrake lever assembly!!

Just a thought but would it be possible to lightly sand it down and then mask it all up carefully and then spray paint it again, followed by a lick of laquer? Just a thought? Thats what I would do in this event.

Also, how on earth would that start flaking? Never seen one to date?

Bl00dy hell, the handbrake is one number for the whole assembly??...pants!!

and the drinks holder bit just pulls out does it?...Is there a certain way it would pull out though, cos i cant shift it without it looking like it will break...

I have no idea how the handbrake knob chrome flaked and peeled, it had like a crazed patten on it when he bought it, and since then its just come off.....not sure if its anything with the car being stood for 12months before hand and maybe damp getting under it and lifting it off??

As for the drinks holder, I was vac'ing the car one day and needed to get around it so pulled it and the bl33der came off in my hand. Slotted striaght back in though.

As for the handbrake peeling, dont know what to say.....but , so whack some up and someone here at some point will have had a similar issue no doubt, so will get good guidance and advice!!

Yep, the rubbery finish on the handle bit of mine had started to peel slightly, so I looked into getting a new bit - only to find that out!

However, if you can find one in a scrappy, the chrome button just kinda pops out and the plastic handle bit just slides off the shaft (ooer missus) of the lever, so a quick swap would be an easy job.

The rubbery finish as a whole isnt too great IMO...its slowly being removed off both front door grab handles, and the 4 steering wheel covers with general wear and tear and also where the left knee/leg rests on the edge of the dash....looks very scruffy for what is only a 6yr old car, I had the same issues in my old Omega with it....dont get me wrong, it feels quite good, but looks dreadful when its all marked and coming off.

The scrappers is an idea now youve mentioned how they come off, thanks Dunc
