Confused

Guys, looking for advice, I want to make a good job of my car and dont know what to go for. Think im swaying towards Meguiars, have seen a website which i think may be the cheapest to source but dont know what to buy (http://www.autowash-products.co.uk) free delivery too. Anyway i have seen advice to buy the Claying Kit, Step 1 & 2 and wax, however. Im scared to do the wrong thing and get the wrong product (by this time im sure you are saying "I hate Newbies ! ") LoL anyway, the car is only a year old and aint too bad but i want to start as i mean to go on. Also was thinking about Zymol on ebay 500ml £8.99 Good idea ?
any advice MOST welcome

I have just recently bought megs 1.2.& 3 (well my son bought me them for fathers day) one of the best things i have got for my car the deep shine is something else ...it does take time in doing it but its worth it ..i got a buffer from Screwfix and fitted it to my cordless drill ..makes it a bit easier

The Meg's step 1,2,3 stuff is a good starting point and you'll like the results.
Once the detailing bug bites, then you can start looking at other, more specialised products.
As for claying, don't be afraid ! If you keep the panel & clay well lubricated with the detailer spray, there won't be any problems. Just take your time and enjoy the results !

You can not go wrong with the 1 2 3 kit mate. Just take your time and it's fine.

1,2,3 is aimed at the DIY market. Therefore it contains no abrasives and the only problem you will have is if you put too much on because it will be a pain to remove. Less is more.

You are more likely to cause damage by using old clothes which may have been dropped on the floor in the past so buy some new applicators and some new micro fibre clothes. Don't mix the products up on the applicator or clothes either.

(Don't use a sponge to wash it either and if you want to take your first tentative steps into detailing use two buckets. One with the car shampoo in and one with just water. Rinse the wash mitt in the water bucket to get rid of any grit before going to the shampoo one)

Step one is chemical based paint cleaner. Apply half panel at a time , and immediately buff off. Do not let this dry. Because it is chemical based you are not going to remove any lacquer, just the crap from in it.

Step two - Oil based glaze with some fillers. Apply and remove as per step one. The idea behind step two is to feed and oil the paintwork to create a deep shine.

Step three - wax protection. Apply the wax to the whole car, allow to cure and haze over, then gently buff off. The thinnner the better as only the tinest amount will actually bond to the paint now and the more you over apply, the more you will have to buff off. Step three is a bit thick, and gloopy, so be sure to give it a damn good shake before use. Durability wise its pretty pants I'm afraid. Hence why someone has recommended NXT to you as this is slightly more durable.

If you are going to use the NXT, I would buy

Clay bar kit
Step one cleaner
NXT version 2.0 wax.

NXT V2 has enough shine enhancers in it for you to be able to skip step two and save time, money and effort.

Lastly, dont be scraed to use any of the above, come back if you have a specific question and I'll help as you require.

Iain, are you saying if you use NXT Version 2 then you can simply wash the car then use this? Not have to polish then wax on top? A one does all type treatment?
How does this compare to the deep shine you get from megs 2 and 3 combined?
Anyone else recommend this too?
Also where can you buy NXT?

NXT Version 2 is an upgraded version 1 which provides a better deeper shine, it contains fillers and gloss enhancers so it does away with the need to glaze after cleaning.

The Stage 1 Cleaner is worth getting, it does exactly what it says, "cleans the paintwork in preparation for Glaze, Sealant or Wax.

The Stage 2 Polish is also a decent product and well worth getting as a pre wax base, 2-3 applications can mask light to medium swirling quite well.

The Stage 3 Wax is not the best product, I personally think it's quite poor, I'd suggest having a look for a decent paste wax, there are some very good paste waxes which can be bought for around the £20 mark, worth considering are Meg's #26 yellow paste wax, Collinite 476(a very good long lasting wax, apply one panel at a time and buff off, if left on too long it's very hard to buff off, but well worth considering) Collinite 915, as 476 but slightly better looks, P21S now re branded as R222, a lovely easy to apply, easy to remove wax, not the best on durability but again well worth considering, Chemical Guys Pete's 53 wax, easy on easy off, great looks and durability is quite good.

So you could use step one once or twice a year, and just use the NXT every couple of months to keep the car looking good.
