    Default very worrying noise

Ok guys here is one for you technicians

When i start up the car she sounds as she should with no strange noises etc, even when driving there is no changes either.

but as soon as i depress the clutch it sounds as though there is something a miss inside the engine with a rather loud grinding noise. take the foot off the clutch and it goes away.

There is no difference in the clutch feel or the way the car drives.

some ideas of what it will be would be nice before i take it to VX

Could be, But generally the release bearing is noisy when the clutch is up & goes quiet/er when depressed.

ok, update for you. spoke to VX Network Q and they have advised to get it booked in straight away. i explained everything on the phone and they put me through to a technical chap. again explained everything and he said it sounded like the Dual Mass Flywheel. It would need to be removed for inspection.
He went to ask about mileage age of car etc. told him 44k miles, registered 18-01-2006, and he said you have nothing to worry about as it is all covered under manufacturers warranty.

Big sigh of relief on my part, lots of thanks, took his name and number so that Skurrays VX in Swindon can call him if they need to.

Car is booked into dealers on Wednesday for inspection of possible clutch fault and also Handbrake to be fixed under recall.

fingers crossed, i'll keep you all posted

I had the notorious noise, when you press the clutch lightly. A rattling noise, but when you press the clutch fully down the noise went. VX wanted £1400 for DMF and clutch. But a local clutch centre fitted the dual mass flywheel and the clutch for £550 and seem to do the job in about 4 hours. Noise has now gone, but how could they do it in such time, when VX say it takes 8 hrs. Or have I missed something ???

Well, just been to the dealers to pick the car up, and they have confirmed that it is the DMF that is rattling and making all the noise.

They said, they will need the car for a couple of days to drop the gearbox and give it a thorough inspection. They said that if the clutch is worn it will be worth my while having it replaced while the gearbox is out of the car. but they will advise me either way.

The best news is the DMF is covered by warranty, i won't have to pay for any labour costs as Vauxhall have approved all of the work.
They are providing me a free courtesy car for the time it is in.

Question is, do i get the clutch replaced at the same time and then not worry about any future problems. or leave it for now and hope it never goes.
Car has done 44k miles and i do about 23k per year. How long does a clutch normally last.

    hi tony

yeah the favourite flywheel, ive just had mine replaced under warranty as it
was rattly and now ive got it back the gear change is easier and smother to
    select.

another thing to look out for is ya manifold with ya turbo attached to it as
mine was making a loud exhaust type of blowing noise but it turned out to
be a cracked manifold, the car is now back in order and running better than
    ever
