    Default Brake bulb warning light

My brake bulb warning light came on today so I checked the lights and all OK. Is there a known problem with the checking circuit?

Mines came on some months ago - genuine. Had never seen the thing before. Replaced faulty bulb. Came on again a week later - genuine, replaced the faulty bulb. Now it comes on every day for about twenty seconds. Checked every bulb and all fine. Haven't a clue why it shows so I reckon you may have something with the circuit.

When a brake bulb goes another bulb in the cluster takes over its job. So it may look like they are working but one will be faulty. I had an inconsistent bulb check warning come one for ages. It ended up that the filament had come lose in one of the bulbs, so sometimes it worked and sometimes it didnt. HTH

Huh? There are only two (plus the LED strip)

However, as already mentioned, when one bulb fails, the one below takes over.

Bulbs (all 12 volt 21 watt) from top to bottom in the light cluster:-

    Turn signal light
    Tail light / brake light
    Tail light
Fog tail light (drivers side only - this is normal for the UK)
    Reversing light

For the tail light a reduced voltage is supplied to the bulb (to make it dimmer) and when it becomes a brake light the voltage is increased to make it brighter.

Also, if the upper tail/brake light bulb fails, then the lower tail light takes over as a tail/brake light.

In short, just make sure the 2nd bulb down from the top is ok.
